Apple has updated its Knowledge Base article about iPad WIFI issues – you can read their post on the Apple site – http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3304
The most important update to their site? This sentence – “Apple will also address remaining Wi-Fi connectivity issues with a future iPad software update.”
This implies that Apple has some role to play in solving the problem and it’s not just those of us with certain routers who cause the problem.

Apple has posted a Knowledge Base support article on the subject of iPad WIFI problems – with a rundown of symptoms and possible fixes for the issues.
The biggest problem (and one that I have personally experienced) is this – theiPad: does not automatically rejoin known Wi-Fi networks. Here’s what Apple says to do:
” Symptoms
Under certain conditions, iPad may not automatically rejoin a known Wi-Fi network after restart or waking from sleep. This can occur with some third-party Wi-Fi routers that are dual-band capable when:
Using the same network name for each network
Using different security settings for each network
Resolution
If you encounter this issue, try the following:
Create separate Wi-Fi network names to identify each band. This can be done easily by appending one or more characters to the current network name.
Example: Add a G to the 802.11b/g network name and an N to the 802.11n network name.
Ensure that both networks use the same security type (WEP, WPA, WPA2, and so on)
If the issue persists, reset your network settings using Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.”
By renaming my network I was able to solve the problem. Hopefully this information will help anyone else experiencing this issue.

Looking at our current poll, “Are you more likely to use WI-FI or 3G services to connect your iPad to the Internet when on the go?” I see that about two thirds of you aren’t waiting for the 3G iPad. Here’s why I’m Buying the iPad W/O 3G.
On April 3, I am pulling the trigger on the non-3G model – it is cheaper, doesn’t require a data plan (cheaper still) and I can get it first
But as a dedicated Verizon MIFI user, I am not worried about accessing the Web. I have that card in my pocket at all times. The Verizon bandwidth already costs me $60 a month. Why not tap into that for the iPad?
The downsides are:
1) no location-based services (GPS) – oh well, I can type in my address. I think I am smart enough to figure out where I am standing at all times.
2) the MIFI battery won’t last as long as the iPad’s battery so assuming the worst-case scenario, you’d have to find a power outlet to recharge the MIFI – even airplanes are starting to have AC power at the seat.
