Looking at our current poll, “Are you more likely to use WI-FI or 3G services to connect your iPad to the Internet when on the go?” I see that about two thirds of you aren’t waiting for the 3G iPad. Here’s why I’m Buying the iPad W/O 3G.
On April 3, I am pulling the trigger on the non-3G model – it is cheaper, doesn’t require a data plan (cheaper still) and I can get it first
But as a dedicated Verizon MIFI user, I am not worried about accessing the Web. I have that card in my pocket at all times. The Verizon bandwidth already costs me $60 a month. Why not tap into that for the iPad?
The downsides are:
1) no location-based services (GPS) – oh well, I can type in my address. I think I am smart enough to figure out where I am standing at all times.
2) the MIFI battery won’t last as long as the iPad’s battery so assuming the worst-case scenario, you’d have to find a power outlet to recharge the MIFI – even airplanes are starting to have AC power at the seat.
