iPad in Japan Used by Surgeons

Interesting use of iPad in Japan for access to medical images by surgeons. The iPad is included in sterile case and has access to the patient’s images on the hospital PACS (picture archiving and communication system) by wifi.

Lots of iPad in the News

Time Magazine Inc is having trouble getting Apple to approve subscription sales via the iTunes store. Up until now, most of the complaints I’ve heard drom developers about Apple’s iTunes App acceptance policy have bordered on whining. But this is a legitimate problem that needs to be sorted out or everyone will suffer, including Apple.

The iPad is making its way into college classrooms. Everyplace from Oklahoma State University to North Carolina State University is doing something with the iPad. Could the iPad replace the need for the expensive books that college students need?

And finally, in what seems to be a daily routine (or perhaps it’s becoming a sporting event that will qualify for the Olympics) lawyers have filed what is possibly the 128,274th class action lawsuit against Apple this year because – wait for it – when you take the iPad out into the hot sun it gets – HOT!

iPad Wallpapers

By Scott Bourne

All Photos Copyright Scott Bourne – All Rights Reserved

I love providing my images to iPad and iPhone users for use as wallpaper. For those who can’t afford or get access to my larger fine art pieces, this is a way to have the images accessible 24/7 on your favorite portable devices.

We launched Avian Wallpaper first and then Wolf Wallpaper. Both were originally built for the iPad. The good news is that now they have been upgraded and are also available for iPhone users.

Here’s a complete list of the updated versions. Those of you who bought the app for iPad can get free updates from the iTunes Store.

- Now a Universal app (i.e. works on both iPhone and iPad)
- Enhanced the iPhone version to be optimized for the retina display of the iPhone 4
- Supports any aspect ratio, the prints are simply centered and scaled to fit the space but are now never cropped.
- Each image can now have its own url associated with it to allow for tight integration with an eCommerce system that sells prints of the image (Pending)
- Provides in app email to a specified contact email
- Provides a link back to the artists website on the info page
- Includes a space for an artists statement or information regarding the app.

To celebrate, I’m going to offer free download codes to each app to three of my Twitter followers this week. Each will be randomly selected. I am working on another app of general wildlife pictures to be released soon.

Thanks for your support.

3.27 Million

3.27

Apple said it sold 3.27 million iPads during the quarter. This was revealed in Apple’s formal third-quarter earnings reports required by the Securities & Exchnage Commission.

3.27 million – in the first quarter the product was available.

Nuff said.

iPad Taking Over

There’s an interesting new research report from Resolve Market Research that looks at how people use the iPad. The results are impressive. It will cost you money to buy the report, but Mashable has seen it and has some relevant excerpts.

Google Nexus One Dies A Quick Death

Sorry I just can’t resist. I get hate mail every week from the Google fanboys who, like schoolyard bullies tell me that one day, one day, Google is going to squash the iPad with their own tablet.

These emails are very similar to those I received about the iPhone. Google was going to destroy the iPhone with the Nexus One.

Umm yeah – well Google just killed the Nexus One. Why not save the trouble of the big fancy product launch, the Google fanboy hype and the horror and just leave that so-called iPad killer you folks are hoping for back in the lab? If the performance of the Nexus One is any indicator, the only death that will be caused as a result of the Google iPad killer will be – that’s right – a suicide. The one that happens when Google kills that product too.

PadPundit Episode 10

Host: Scott Bourne (www.scottbourne.com or www.twitter.com/scottbourne) & Andy Ihnatko (www.cwob.com or www.twitter.com/ihnatko)

Show notes by Bruce Clarke (www.momentsindigital.com or www.twitter.com/bruceclarke)

Welcome to Episode 10 of PadPundit with your hosts Scott Bourne and Andy Ihnatko. PadPundit is the show devoted to all things iPad and other worthy entrants into the tablet computing category. This week, Scott and Andy catch up with the latest iPad news and discuss the various photography applications that are available for the iPad.

iOS 4 for the iPad

Scott and Andy discuss the status of iOS 4 for the iPad and wonder why there hasn’t been much news about it. The only thing Apple is saying is that it will be available sometime in the fall. Scott wasn’t too interested in multi-taksing on the iPhone but really wants the multi-tasking feature on the iPad.

iPad for Photography

Scott and Andy are both using the camera connection kit in the field to view their photos on the beautiful iPad screen. Andy really likes being able to sort and pick images while he’s in the field rather than waiting until he gets back to his main computer. As a portfolio device, Scott really likes being able to hand the iPad to people and letting them flip through the photos at their own pace. It has resulted in an increase in sales for his photography. Scott is really excited about the new Mamiya RZ33 WiFi tethered mode which will allow photographers to shoot and view their photos on an iPad. Sure it’s an $18,000 camera today but Scott thinks we’ll see this in $500 cameras very soon.

In terms of photo applications, Scott would like to see a version of iPhoto for the iPad. Scott is also working with some photographers to develop an iPad with all the applications removed that can be used as a wedding album. He has also seen many photographers using the iPad as their portfolio device to get business. Gourmet magazine is also being reborn as an iPad magazine so that gets photographers back in the game shooting for the digital version of the magazine.

New Applications

There are more and more applications appearing on the iPad including DC Comics. YouTube has also been updated to fully support the iPad. The iPad is putting downward pressure on devices like the Nook and the Kindle and both Scott and Andy are eager to see competitors to the iPad start to step up their game to keep Apple on their toes and in development mode.
